29 CFR 1910.213(n)(3):Feed rolls shall be guarded by a hood or suitable guard to prevent the hands of the operator from coming in contact with the in-running rolls at any point. The guard shall be fastened to the frame carrying the rolls so as to remain in adjustment for any thickness of stock. a) On or about April 8, 2021, the Weinig B22 Moulder Feeder (Company ID# 2802, machine number 567-909), feed roll guard did not prevent access to the two feed rolls ingoing nip points within. Employees could reach under the hinged guard through a seven inch by 13 inch opening and employees could also reach under the hinged guard through the 1.625 inch gap between the cut stock and hinged guard, which was only 11 inches from the feed roll ingoing nip point. b) On or about April 8, 2021, Machine Systems LLC Hydromat 23 Moulder Feeder (Company ID# L15016, serial number 792-1C1-B), four feed rolls ingoing nip points were accessible. The two manually adjusted feed rolls were not guarded. Employees could also reach the two feed rolls behind a guard through the 1.5 inch gap between the cut stock and the guard bottom which was only two inches from the ingoing nip point of the feed rolls.
