29 CFR 1910.1030(g)(2)(vii)(F): The bloodborne pathogens training program did not contain an explanation of the use or limitations of methods that would prevent or reduce exposure including appropriate engineering controls, work practices or personal protective equipment: a. Where work practices were unclear for the safe method of transfer of sharps instruments between surgeon and assistants during operating room procedures, not all employees potentially exposed had received the October, 2013 or May, 2014 training. b. Where training had been provided to operating room employees on safe method of transfer of sharps during procedures, at least some employees were unclear what was hospital policy on how transfer of sharps was to be made. c. Where operating room technicians were unfamiliar with work practices of surgeons to be assisted in surgery, there was no communication about how transfer of instruments would be made. Abatement certification and abatement documentation is required for this violation. The documentation should include written verification of abatement, applicable measurements or monitoring results, and photographs or videos which you believe will be helpful. The abatement certification sheet is enclosed with the citation(s).
