Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck by hazards while retrieving equipment from a maintenance truck. a)On June 14, 2007, at 2422 Central Road in Glenview, Illinois, employees were observed retrieving equipment and supplies, such as but not limited to lawn mowers, trimmers and blowers, from the maintenance truck and trailer spotted within the yellow marked median. Employees were performing temporary short duration traffic control road channelization operations without utilization of personal protective equipment, such as high visibility apparel, were exposed to struck-by or crushing hazards of on-coming traffic. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard would be to follow Chapter 6E Flagger Control as delineated in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, 2003 edition, Section 6E.02 High Visibility Clothing. **In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(d), abatement certification is required for this violation (using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET), and in addition, documentation demonstrating that abatement is complete must be included with your certification. This documentation may include, but is not limited to, evidence of the purchase or repair of the equipment, photographic or video evidence of abatement, or other written records.**
