Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001B Hazard: LIFTING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: Employees working in the vicinity of loads lifted with custom / job made lifting devices including the two custom made lifters used to lift die casings at the 205 Header were exposed to the hazard of being struck by falling loads due to the potential of overloading the lifting devices, which were not load rate tested and marked with their rated load capacity. Among others, feasible and acceptable means to correct this hazard would be to ensure that all custom / job made lifting devices are load rate tested and marked with their rated load capacity in compliance with ANSI B30.20, the American National Standard for Below-The-Hook Lifting Devices.
