Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001B Hazard: STRUCK BY

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety & Health Act of 1970:The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to structural collapse: a)South side staging area and Sanctuary area - Cascade Community Church - 109 West Pine, Cascade, ID; On or about 10/26/05 and at times prior thereto, as the controlling employer, it was not ensured that a spreader bar or "stiffback" was utilized for hoisting/placing roof trusses with a span greater than 30 feet, thereby exposing employees working on/around/under the trusses and/or parts of the structure to the hazard of being struck by the collapsing truss or structural collapse. Note: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard would be following the hoisting requirements for roof trusses with a span greater than 30 feet per the Truss Manufacturer and/or Wood Truss Council of America's "Building Component Safety Information" Bulletin BCSI 1-03.
