Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001B Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing hazards during line clearing operations: a.Line Mechanics and Line Crew Supervisors were exposed to crushing hazards when large limbs that were cleared from utility equipment were allowed to free fall instead of being lowered by a separate work line or mechanical equipment as documented on June 9, 2004. Among others one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to assure that limbs that cannot be dropped in a safe manner or by hand are lowered to the ground in a controlled manner using separate work lines or mechanical equipment, as reference in ANSI Z133.1-2000-paragraph 9.2.4.
