Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001B Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: On or about December 8, 2003, at Menard, Inc., employees were exposed to fall hazards while working from High Lift Order Picker Rider Trucks due to the fact that the employer did not ensure employees were trained on the inspection, use and maintenance of the personal fall arrest systems prior to use. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazards is to: a)ensure that prior to work requiring personal fall arrest systems, users are trained by a competent person to select, inspect, use, store and maintain the equipment according to the requirements of the manufacturer's instructions and with ANSI Z359.1-1992, American National Standard Safety Requirements for Personal Fall Arrest Systems, Subsystems and Components, Section 7.3.
