29 CFR 1910.219(c)(4)(i): Shaft ends projecting more than one-half the diameter of the shaft were not guarded by nonrotating caps or safety sleeves. a) On or about March 15, 2024, the employer did not ensure that projecting shaft ends on the #32 winder were guarded. The winder shafts extended several inches past the edge of the spools, and no guarding or nonrotating safety sleeves were present to protect employees from caught-on or entanglement hazards. b) On or about May 1, 2024, the employer did not ensure that projecting shaft ends on the #8 winder were guarded. The winder shafts extended several inches past the edge of the spools, and no guarding or nonrotating safety sleeves were present to protect employees from caught-on or entanglement hazards. c) On or about May 1, 2024, the employer did not ensure that projecting shaft ends on the #14 winder were guarded. The winder shafts extended several inches past the edge of the spools, and no guarding or nonrotating safety sleeves were present to protect employees from caught-on or entanglement hazards. Abatement documentation is required of this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(d).
