29 CFR 1910.134(k)(1)(i): The employer did not ensure that each employee could demonstrate knowledge of why the respirator was necessary and how improper fit, usage, or maintenance could compromise the protective effect of the respirator: a) Facility/Production Area: The use of respiratory protection, including but not limited to 3M half facepiece elastomeric dual cartridge respirators, was required for all employees working with tablet press or encapsulating machines in the facility for protection against the airborne dust generated during loading the machines with powder. The employer did not ensure that each employee could demonstrate knowledge of how facial hair would interfere with mask-to-face seal and compromise the protective effect of the respirator. The violation occurred on or about 04/26/23.
