29 CFR 1915.14(b)(1)(iii): Hot work was permitted in the engine room or boiler spaces, for which a Marine Chemist or a Coast Guard authorized person certificate was not required under paragraph (a)(1)(i) of this section, before being tested by a competent person and determined to contain no concentrations of flammable vapors equal to or greater than 10 percent of the lower explosive limit. Port side engine compartment: The workspace was not tested for combustible or flammable atmospheres, exposing workers to explosion and burn hazards.
