Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001B Hazard:
29 CFR 1926.502(d)(16)(iii): Personal fall arrest systems, when stopping a fall, were not rigged such that an employee could not free fall more than 6 feet nor contact any lower level: a) Leitner-Poma of America Inc., 1599C Summit County Road, Base of Peak 10-Falcon Super Chair, Breckenridge, CO 80424: On or before July 20, 2017, the employer did not ensure that personal fall arrest systems, when stopping a fall, were rigged to prevent employees from free falling more than 6 feet, nor from contacting a lower level. Employees were dismantling a two-person chair lift by working from a catwalk that was 12'9" high. The employees' personal fall arrest system included a shock absorbing lanyard that did not prevent employees from contacting the ground below. This condition resulted in exposure to fall hazards of 12'9". Abatement note: The use of a retractable lanyard, instead of a shock absorbing lanyard, can serve as effective abatement method to prevent employees from striking the lower elevation.
