Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001B Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.132(d)(1): The employer did not assess the workplace to determine if hazards are present, or are likely to be present, which necessitate the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). If such hazards are present, or likely to be present. a) On or about July 19, 2017 or prior there to, Sulfuric Acid Tank #5: The employer did not assess the hazards of exposure to contact with concentrated 98% Sulfuric Acid during inverted entry into the confined space. Employees did not utilize acid hoods during entry, and the necks and ears of employees were exposed during this work operation. In addition, the gloves and boots worn by employees were not taped to the sleeve and pant seams of PPE. Employees were exposed to the hazards of skin contact with concentrated sulfuric acid without a fully encapsulating suit or adequate PPE. NOTE: Abatement certification and documentation are required for this item.
