Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001B Hazard: CONFINED
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to potential hazards of oxygen deficient, toxic, or explosive atmospheres when entering confined spaces without observing adequate entry procedures: COMPANY: Workers were exposed to potentially dangerous atmospheres when allowed to enter into sewer lines where adequate testing had not been performed and appropriate personal protective equipment had not been provided. Among others, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct the hazard would be to establishing standard procedures for the continuous monitoring of sewer man holes as well as other confined spaces.
