Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001B Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.1047(j)(3)(iii)(C): The training of employees potentially exposed to ethylene oxide did not include the measures employees can take to protect themselves from hazards associated with ethylene oxide exposure, including specific procedures the employer has implemented to protect employees from exposure to ethylene oxide, such as work practices, emergency procedures and personal protective equipment to be used: (a) The employer has an established procedure (Central Services policy #E-17) which has as its stated purpose: "To provide exact steps for safe evacuation of the CS Department in the event of a Suspected ETO leak or spill." However, adequate training on this procedure has not been provided for employees in Sterile Processing, where ethylene oxide is used and where the potential exists for occurrence of an emergency situation.
