Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that: (a) Flock Division: Employees were exposed to the hazard of being burned from fire and/or explosion on 3/6/93 due to the introduction of an oxidizing chemical into the flocking operations on line #4. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is development and adoption of policies and procedures that will insure that prior to introduction of any hazardous chemicals into any production processes, an evaluation will be done to assess any potentially hazardous effects the introduction of the chemical might have on employee safety and health.
