Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: On or prior to 1/20/92, employees were exposed to the hazard of crushing injuries or death while operating vehicles on Southeast Haul Road access roadway under icy conditions due to unsatisfactory road maintenance. Abatement methods include, but are not limited to: 1. Keeping access roadways clear of ice and snow. 2. Maintaining a stable base with grade minimal. 3. Providing sufficient quantities of road dressing for clearning personnel to help prevent and stop slippery conditions. 4. Using anti-ice or slip materials prior to vehicular traffic on roadway.
