Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001B Hazard:
OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to multiple injuries from a conveyor belt on an Automated Parcel Bundle Sorter (APBS) machine due to the storage of containers of mail and packages restricting access to the Emergency-Stop buttons located along the entire length of the conveyor belt. Among other methods, a feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is for the E-Stop buttons to be relocated past the stored containers of mail, or to clear a pathway through the stored containers for employees to reach the E-Stop buttons. a) Southeast end of the plant: The Automated Parcel Bundle Sorter (APBS) machine had containers of mail blocking employee access to the Emergency Stop buttons located along the length of the machine. ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION IS REQUIRED.
