29 CFR 1910.132(d)(1)(i): The employer shall assess the workplace to determine if hazards are present, or are likely to be present, which necessitate the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). If such hazards are present, or likely to be present, the employer shall: Select, and have each affected employee use, the types of PPE that will protect the affected employee from the hazards identified in the hazard assessment; a. Kingspan Benchmark, Columbus Ohio, Marion Road workplace: On or about April 30, 2015, the employer had failed to adequately assess the workplace for methylene bisphenyl isocyanate (MDI); in that the skin contact and absorption hazards are not addressed for protection of the upper extremities, as the arms are not required to be covered by protective clothing or personal protective equipment in the FIP manufacturing process or in the Glue Coating operation. Employees in these areas have potential for skin contact and absorption of MDI in daily required activities.
