Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001B Hazard: LIFTING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) Being struck by either a falling prestressed concrete slab which was being repositioned using a hydraulic jack/post shore rig or by the single post shore being used as an extender with the jack to reposition the slab in the event the post shore became displaced and kicked out, on or about 9/10/87. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to obtain, or design and fabricate, a lifting device that would not require an extender, and establish written safe operating procedures for its use.
