29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices,electronic safety devices, etc. a. At the work site located at 22111 Jericho Road, Glenmont, Ohio, the employer had not provided adequate guarding on a machine used to convert commercial paper rolls into printed books, such as childrens coloring, activity and watercolor books and word search and crossword puzzle books. 1. The Goss Subway printer, serial number unreadable, was not adequately guarded in that the open face of the employee pass-through area #1 had spinning moving parts at the point of operation. There were no sensors or guards at the point of operation. 2.
