Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001A Hazard:

29 CFR 1926.416(a)(1): Employees were permitted to work in proximity to electric power circuits and were not protected against electric shock by de-energizing and grounding the circuits or effectively guarding the circuits by insulation or other means: Temple University's Kornberg School of Dentistry, Corridor "2COR5" - An employee was exposed to an electric shock hazard while working on the shared neutral for the 277 VAC overhead corridor lighting. The electric power circuit for an adjoining bathroom, which shared the same neutral as the corridor lighting circuit, was not de-energized. The employee had been exposed to the hazard while changing out corridor lighting fixtures. This change out, as conducted, had the employee disconnecting all conductors (hot, neutral, and ground) at each of three light fixtures, install a new fixture, then re-install the conductors. The neutral for these lights was also the same neutral for an additional circuit that had not been de-energized. On or about 5/30/2012. Abatement certification and documentation required within 10 days after abatement date. The certification shall include a statement that abatement is complete, the date and method of abatement, and state that employees and their representatives were informed of this abatement. Abatement documentation shall include documents demonstrating that abatement is complete, such as evidence of the purchase or repair of equipment, photographic or video evidence of abatement or other written records.
