Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001A Hazard: LOCKOUT
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to being caught in hazards by the chain and sprocket from the Belt Filter and overexposure to hexane vapors: a.On or about October 31, 2011, Extraction Plant, employees entered the Belt Filter and the employer had not established and implemented an energy control program that consisted of specific energy control procedures and employee training for employees that cleaned the interior area of the Belt Filter. ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION AND DOCUMENTATION ARE NOT REQUIRED. Among other methods, a feasible means of abatement would be: 1. Develop and implement specific lockout tagout procedures when employees are required to clean the interior of the Belt Filter.
