Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001A Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being thrown from, or crushed-by a forklift truck: (a)Employees were exposed to struck by hazards when operating a Cat fork lift truck when moving sheets of plate steel without using the provided and functional seatbelt. (b)Employees were exposed to struck by hazards when operating a Toyota fork lift truck when loading and unloading trucks without using the provided and functional seatbelt. Note #1: Abatement certification required for this item. Note #2: A feasible and useful method to correct the hazard is establish a work rule, monitor for compliance, retrain when necessary and enforce the work rule.
