Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001A Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by cylinders: a.Outdoor Storage Area - Employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by a cylinder in the event that a cylinder fell over and ruptured the valve. Cylinders were not properly stored and valve protection caps were not in place where cylinders were designed to accept a cap. ABATEMENT NOTE: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable means of abatement would be to ensure that all cylinders are safely stored and those that are designed to accept a cap have been capped, as described in the Compressed Gas Association Pamphlet P-1 2006, paragraphs 5.4 and 5.7.4.aphs
