Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001A Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety & Health Act of 1970:The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to structural collapse: a)South exterior wall of the Sanctuary - Cascade Community Church - 109 West Pine, Cascade, ID; On or about 10/26/05 and at times prior thereto, as the controlling employer, it was not determined/ensured that a load-bearing exterior wall was adequately constructed and laterally supported prior to placing roof trusses onto the wall, thereby exposing employees working on/around/under the wall and/or trusses to the hazard of being struck by the collapsing structure. Note: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard would be following the temporary bracing requirements for roof truss installation per the Truss Manufacturer and/or Wood Truss Council of America's "Building Component Safety Information" Bulletin BCSI 1-03. b)Sanctuary area - Cascade Community Church - 109 West Pine, Cascade, ID; On or about 10/26/05 and at times prior thereto, as the controlling employer, it was not determined/ensured that roof trusses were laterally supported with diagonal bracing as they were installed, thereby exposing employees working on/around/under the wall and/or trusses to the hazard of being struck by the collapsing structure. Note: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard would be following the temporary bracing requirements for roof truss installation per the Truss Manufacturer and/or Wood Truss Council of America's "Building Component Safety Information" Bulletin BCSI 1-03.
