Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001A Hazard: UNAPOPPROC

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to structural collapse: (A)Job Site: On May 27, 2004, employees were exposed to the hazard of structural collapse of the truss system, since the trusses were not diagonally braced. ABATEMENT NOTE: One feasible method of abatement, amongst others, to correct the hazard is to follow the guidance provided by the Wood Truss Council of America and the Truss Plate Institute (BCSI-B1) Summary Sheet-Guide for Handling, Installing and Bracing of Metal Plate Connected Wood Trusses. This document instructs that diagonal braces be placed after the first five trusses have been placed and laterally braced and then repeat diagonal bracing on groups of four trusses until the trusses are set. Note: Abatement certification required for this item.
