Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of both an unsecured tractor tire that was of a weight and dimension that could not be safely controlled without the assistance of mechanical means: a) On 9 OCT 03, employees were removing a tire from a Case MX 240 tractor. The Goodyear Super Traction Radial DT800 380/90R54 tire and rim had been detached from the tractor and was unsecure. Note 1: One feasible means of abatement, among others, is to maintain the tire truck crane in a position where the tire being detached from the tractor would be safely supported. Note 2: Abatement certification and supporting documentation are required for this item.
