Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001A Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing injuries from overturning forklift trucks due to the fact that operator restraint systems (seat belts) provided on forklift trucks were not required to be used, as required by ANSI/ASME B56.1-1993. (a) Establishment: Employees operating the Yale forklift were not required to wear the provided seat belt. Abatement Note: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to require and effectively enforce the use of operator restraint systems while operating forklift trucks provided with them.
