Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001A Hazard: CAUGHT
North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish each of his employees conditions of employment and a place of employment free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a conveyor belt that was not equipped with an emergency shut off that was readily accessible to the employees: a)evisceration area/giblet table- a conveyor belt emergency cut off switch was not located in a manner such that it was readily accessible to the employees. Employees were exposed to in-running nip points where employees could get a finger or hand caught in the inter lock teflon belt conveyor that could and did severely injure an employee's finger on 9-21-99. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard would be to install a wire safety line near the conveyor belt, that would stop the movement of the belt immediately and would be within easy reach of the employees at their work station.
