Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a delay in egress: Location: Office exit On or about: 3/14/01 a) The bolt locking mechanism used on the office exit door was located approximately 5 1/2 feet above the floor. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS: 1) As specified in the National Fire Protection Association, 2000 edition, paragraph 7.2.1.5.4: The releasing mechanism for any latch shall be located not less than 34 in. (86 cm), and not more than 48 in. (122 cm), above the finished floor. NOTE: The employer is required to submit abatement certification for this item in accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19.ce
