Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001A Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing of likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by a precast concrete wall: a) On or about October 25, 1999, employee(s) were exposed to crushing injuries during the placement of a jobsite precast concrete wall panel in that #11 rebar was used as a stop. The #11 rebar broke loose from the concrete column allowing the panel to swing inward and strike an employee. Among other's, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to utilize weld plates/clips on the column as stops.
