Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001A Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being thrown off and struck-by a forklift truck: a)Storage yard, on or about 12/03/99: Employee was not wearing seatbelts while operating a Nissan forklift. ABATEMENT NOTES: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to: 1). Require and enforce the use of seatbelts that are provided on the fork truck. 2). Follow the requirements of the American National Standards for low lift and high lift trucks (ASME B56.1-1993, Chapter 5.3.19.
