North Carolina General Statue 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees condition of employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the possibility of falling 14' when climbing out of the scissor lift. a)front of building, approximately 14' high, employee installing metal canopy over entranceway, using scissor lift to gain access, positioned approximately 2" from the edge of canopy parallel to the horizontal members, and scissor lift cage moved approximately 2" more away from the edge during the transition, for a total step across distance of 4", ref. ANSI A92.6-1969, paragraph 14.2.6. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard would be to wear a body harness and lanyard tied off to the scissor lift frame during the step across.
