Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001A Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing and amputation hazards caused by the unintentional operation of an unguarded foot pedal of a press brake which could be activated by falling objects or accidental operator contact. One feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to guard the foot pedal as referenced in ANSI B11.3-1973. a) At the west end of the Hull Shop a Scottish Machine Tool Corporation full revolution mechanical press brake, was not provided with a cover or guard over the foot pedal to prevent it's unintentional operation.nal
