Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a)On or about December 17, 1998 employees of M&C Knit Corp. at 75 Thame Street, Brooklyn, were exposed to the hazard of being caught between the elevator and the walls of the elevator shaft due to use of the elevator while the interior car gates were raised. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to: 1. Provide gate electric contact interlocks for the interior elevator car gates to insure that the elevator cannot move without the gates being closed, as required by ANSI/ASME Standard A17.3-1993, par. 3-4.2(a).3,
