Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001A Hazard:
OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees exposed to struck-by and crushing hazards due to the lack of an escape/retreat path during tree felling operations. Location: 16 Chipman Drive Cheshire, CT On or about September 16, 2024, the employer did not ensure that an escape/retreat path was designated and kept clear of obstructions so that employees felling tree trunks had an unimpeded means of egress in case emergency retreat was necessary. An employee was struck and killed when an approximately 16-foot, 8-inch-long tree trunk, with a diameter of approximately 19 inches fell on him. A second employee was exposed to the same struck-by/crushing hazards.
