Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001A Hazard: BURNS
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fire and explosion hazards at the Number Four Fryer: a) Number Four Fryer. An approved automatic deployment fire suppression system was not installed on the "Heat and Control Incorporated" pollution control afterburner and oil heater unit, on or about November 14, 1994. Among other methods, some feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard are: 1) Install an approved automatic deployment fire suppression system on the "Heat and Control Incorporated" pollution control afterburner and oil heater unit. The system shall be automatically armed upon manual or automatic termination of the burner flame, and shall protect areas of the unit upflow and downflow of the oil heat exchanger. 2) The fire suppression system of the Number Four Fryer shall be engineered so that its deployment will terminate fuel and air supply to the afterburner and automatically arm the afterburner fire suppression system.
