Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001A Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likley to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) In that employees working at or near the blast furnace car dumper area, number 17 track, were exposed to being struck by uncontrolled free rolling railroad cars ejected from the car dumper, because two railroad car retainers were inoperative. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct thishazard is to repair and/or install additional car retarders at number 17 track area.
