Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001A Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1):Machine guarding - Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices, electronic safety devices, etc. a) On or before May 08, 2023, the employer did not ensure adequate guarding on equipment such as, but not limited to the Thermo 2 machine was in place to ensure that employees could not reach the pinch point caused by the nip rollers closing when opening the hinge guards located on the 3rd layer on the Thermo 2 machine. b) On or before May 11, 2023, the employer did not ensure adequate guarding on equipment such as, but not limited to the Thermo 5 at the finishing end, in that the safety mat was not positioned at the first roll during the production preparation of the shaft and did not shut down when the operator stepped on the mat. c) On or before May 11, 2023, employees were exposed to moving parts in that the column of rotating shafts in front of the 2nd layer were unguarded and were exposing employees to ingoing nip points when walking across the platforms while the Thermo 2, Thermo 3, and Thermo 5 machines were running.
