29 CFR 1910.106(e)(6)(i): Adequate precautions were not taken to prevent the ignition of flammable vapors from sources such as open flames; lightning; smoking; cutting and welding; hot surfaces; frictional heat; static, electrical, and mechanical sparks; spontaneous ignition, including heat-producing chemical reactions; and radiant heat: On or about January 28 2020, three employees (temporary and permanent) were exposed to explosion and/or fire hazards that resulted in second degree burns to the hands, arms, and face when a High Speed Line operator manually picked up an unbounded and ungrounded plastic 55-gallon drum to transfer a flammable windshield car cleaning product (TBS-C15A) to another unbounded, ungrounded plastic 55-gallon drum (back drum). The employer did not ensure that adequate precautions were taken to prevent the ignition of flammable vapors from sources such as, but not limited to, static electricity. Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(d).
