29 CFR 1910.28(b)(1)(i): (1) Unprotected sides and edges. (i) Except as provided elsewhere in this section, the employer must ensure that each employee on a walking-working surface with an unprotected side or edge that is 4 feet (1.2 m) or more above a lower level is protected from falling by one or more of the following: a. On or about October 9, 2018, at a residential home in Upper Arlington, Ohio, employees cleaned gutters while working from a second story roof without any means of fall protection, exposing the employees to a fall hazard of approximately 20 feet. On October 9, 2018, an employee fell approximately 20 feet from the roof to the ground, without any means of fall protection. The employee suffered fractures to the back, ribs and pelvis.
