Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001A Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.132(d)(1): The employer did not assess the workplace to determine if hazards are present, or are likely to be present, which necessitate the use of personal protective equipment (PPE): (a) Throughout the facility - The employer had not assessed the facility for electrical hazards including electrical shock and arc flash/blast. On or about March 3, 2017, a worker disconnected the electrical circuits and removed the fuses from those circuits that supplied electrical energy to a large air compressor. The fuses were removed without testing the circuits and without the use the use of insulated tools (fuse puller). The employee was not provided with personal protective equipment (PPE) designed to protect the wearer from electrical hazards. In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(d), abatement certification is required for this violation (using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET), and in addition, documentation demonstrating that abatement is complete must be included with your certification. This documentation may include, but is not limited to, evidence of the purchase or repair of the equipment, photographic or video evidence of abatement, or other written records.
