Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001A Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to an injury from an unintended actuation of a foot pedal, not protected by a guard: (a)Pre-Fab Department - An employee operated a Wysong partial revolution mechanical Press Brake, model 6510, serial number PB 12 - 125, to punch metal pieces. No means was provided to protect the foot pedal from an unintended actuation by a falling or moving objects or by someone accidentally stepping on it. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO GUARD THE FOOT PEDAL.
