Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001A Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.134(d)(1)(ii): The employer did not select and use a NIOSH-certified respirator in compliance with the conditions of its certification: a) USS Forrest Sherman, BAE Systems: On or about 04/06/2016, employees engaged in abrasive blasting operations wore a type "C" MSA Abrasive-Blast tight fitting full face respirator with hood that was not in compliance with the conditions of its NIOSH certification. The flow control valve and blue airline hose connected to the respirator tube were not an approved MSA supplied component, as a result employees were potentially exposed to possible inhalation hazards. Abatement certification and documentation required within 10 days after abatement date. The certification shall include a statement that abatement is complete, the date and method of abatement, and state that employees and their representatives were informed of this abatement. Abatement documentation shall include documents demonstrating that abatement is complete, such as evidence of the purchase or repair of equipment, photographic or video evidence of abatement or other written records.
