Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001A Hazard:

29 CFR 1926.760(a)(1): Each employee engaged in a steel erection activity who is on a walking/working surface with an unprotected side or edge more than 15 feet (4.6 m) above a lower level was not protected from fall hazards by guardrail systems, safety net systems, personal fall arrest systems, positioning device systems, or fall restraint systems. The employer is failing to protect employees from fall hazards while performing steel erection activities. This was most recently documented at 27532 West Hwy 30, Sutherland, Nebraska where an employee was exposed to a fall hazard greater than 15 feet while attaching a platform to an elevator leg without the use of fall protection. The employee fell approximately 30 feet sustaining fatal injuries. Abatement certification and abatement documentation is required for this violation. The documentation should include written verification of abatement, applicable measurements or monitoring results, and photographs or videos which you believe will be helpful. The abatement certification sheet is enclosed.
