The alleged violations below have been grouped because they involve %% similar or related hazards that may increase the potential for injury resulting from an accident. Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) On or about August 8, 1991, an employee was exposed to a fall hazard of about 65 feet. The employee was removing some of the retainers for the face panels of the billboard, located near the driveway at 3635 Lorna Road, Hooover, Alabama. The employee was wearing a safety belt, but the lanyards were not secured to prevent fall. The face panels of the sign were being removed. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to secure the lanyard to a substantial member of the structure or an anchorage lifeline.
