Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001A Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing type injuries: a) Tamaqua jobsite, Ashton Strip Mine Reclamation Project: On 7-25-89, operator(s) of the Case, W-26B, front end loader, serial no. 9107574, were exposed to the hazard of possible loss of braking control of the vehicle if a failure of the service brakes occurred as the hand operated emergency brake was inoperative. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO REPAIR THE EMERGENCY HAND BRAKE SYSTEM SO THAT IT MEETS ORIGINAL DESIGN PERFORMANCE CRITERIA.
