Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001A Hazard: GUARDING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) Machine operators performing setup work in the machine area of the Webb drill were not protected from the pinch point hazards between the stationary frame and the moving drill head carrier. One feasible and acceptable abatement method, among others, to correct this hazard is to design or provide the Webb drill with protection, such as, guards or guard devices to eliminate pinch point hazards between moving and stationary components of the machine as prescribed by Section 3.2.1 and 5.6 of ANSI B11.81983, entitled American National Standard for Machine Tools Drilling, Milling, and Boring Machines - Safety Requirements for Construction, Care, and Use.
