Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The %% employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to Amputation hazards caused by accidental operation of the machine(s): The alleged violations below have been grouped because they involve similar or related hazards that may increase the potential for injury resulting from an accident. a) Sheet Metal Department - "Blue" Niagara Shear had no means to prevent accidental operation on or about December 23, 1991. b) Sheet Metal Department - Simco Press Brake had no means to prevent accidental operation among other methods...is to provide a guard over the foot pedal(s) to prevent actuation by falling or moving objects or by someone accidnetally stepping on them, on or about December 23, 1991. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to protect the controls to prevent accidental actuation by falling or moving objects, or by someone accidentally stepping on them (cover with a guard).
