Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) On or about 07/31/00 where nailing of the gypsum board exterior sheathing to the sill plate on the south wall of the structure did not conform with the Uniform Building Codes exposing employees to potential injury. Abatement Note: One feasible method to correct this hazard, but not limited to, would be to follow the Uniform Building Codes Table No. 25-Q - Nailing Schedule note 5 which states that nails should be spaced at 6 inches on center at edges and 12 inches at intermediate supports except 6 inches at all supports where spans are 48 inches or more. For nailing of plywood and particleboard diaphragms and shear walls, refer to section 2513(c). Nails for wall sheathing may be common, box or casing.
